For most students you will definitely want to get 16oz Gloves if you think you might ever be interested in sparring because you can only spar with gloves 16oz's and up (18's and up if you're over 250lbs sometimes). You can always get any size you prefer but if they're not 16's and you would like to spar, you will have to purchase another pair.
